| Grief Therapy Taking the first step in healing grief requires courage, but one that we all need to take in order to continue living our lives fully and in memory of those who have left before us. When we experienced the physical loss of my sister's 18 year old son, we found that one of the first things we looked for was a connection, a sign, that would confirm that he did not disappear forever leaving a void behind. It was unfathomable, and heartbreaking to think that he did not exist anymore, that he could not be touched or hugged again. Its this sense of disconnection that causes the extreme sadness and a feeling of emptiness for those who have experienced loss. Two therapists that I am sharing on this site, have been a part of my sister's healing journey; I was also helped with my own sorrow, as she shared her experiences with me, even if we live 3,000 miles apart in different States. She visited Dr. Allen Botkin and also Dr. John Ryder, both who are outstanding, compassionate therapists who use new therapeutic methods effectively to transmute the pain of grief into a reconnection to a loved one, so that life can be fully lived again. Since Dr. Botkin whose specialty focuses exclusively on grief, is in Chicago and she is NY, she could not continue with the IADC therapy, which is 'Induced After Death Communication; but the weekend session she had with him was a powerful experience which helped her to reconnect to her son and feel a sweetness |
as she remembered him; she found she was able to laugh again without the debilitating grief, but she needed more therapy sessions to be able to move forward with her life. Dr. Ryder whose practice is a general one, used hypnosis and spiritual techniques to also help her re-frame her sorrow and reconnect to her son, as an energy that lives forever. With Dr. Ryder, she was able to have several sessions as he is in NY. The results of the therapy were amazing. An internal shift in her took place and her life has turned around; she has the energy now to want to live again, has lost over 20 pounds, is making plans for her future, has a new spiritual awareness, has had mystical experiences, and the smile in her eyes is back. She will miss her son forever, and will have her moments when she will shed tears for her boy, but she is another inspiring reminder, that even with one of the hardest loses, which is the loss of a child, and although life will never be the same, it can be fully lived again. I have listed psychologists who are part of the new wave of therapists who use alternative methods in their practice to promote what is often a powerful and what can be a spiritual healing of grief. Also included are a list of certified mediums, and traditional self help grief support groups. |
